The City of San Francisco's Office of Economic & Workforce Development and Rofo have partnered to provide a listing of commercial vacancies in select areas of the city. This tool is intended to make it easier for businesses to search for space and for landlords to lease their space. OEWD and Rofo are piloting this program in the Central Market district.

Central Market is a burgeoning arts and entertainment district for the City and the region. The neighborhood is home to numerous arts organizations, including theaters, galleries, museums, and the Black Rock Arts Foundation. In addition, technology companies are rapidly moving into the area; Twitter recently signed a lease at 1355 Market Street, and will move its offices in summer 2012. The neighborhood will also experience significant private investments over the next several years, with a number of large scale housing and commercial development projects in the pipeline.

The City has prioritized the continued revitalization of Central Market, assigning increased resources to the district. Incentives available to businesses and organizations locating to Central Market include the Cultural District Loan Fund, the Central Market/Tenderloin Payroll Tax Exclusion, and Enterprise Zone tax credits. Other public investments include:
  • The City is planning to open a new police substation at 6th & Mission Streets in fall 2011.
  • The Department of Public Works and City Planning will be completely redesigning and repaving Market Street in 2015, including significant streetscape enhancements.
  • The City is working to establish a Redevelopment Area in the district, which would lead to millions of dollars of additional investment.
