The Naval Base has a workforce of 4500 Naval personnel and defense contractors. In addition to that since there was an earthquake that destroyed buildings on the base, and since China Lake Naval Base is a mainstay of the US Defense System, Congress mandated a $3B reconstruction of the base. This work is underway and there is expected to be up to an additional 1500 construction workers for up to 5 years to complete this work. Once completed, the Base will have "state of the art" equipment and is expected to garner more than their share of military contracts.
