Building Details:
Emery Road is located in Saint Helen, MI.
160 ACRES surrounded by State Land. It includes a rustic cabin that was built by two World War II veterans in the late 1940s. This is a real old-timer Michigan deer camp. Nice get-away place; just a few hours from the rat race, but you are definitely paying for the land and not the cabin! Heavily rolling terrain is covered by pine, spruce and oak. The largest of the oak were cut in 1994. Lack of hunting pressure, young growth and many young acorn-bearing oaks keep the deer and turkey coming to your blind. Bear, partridge and woodcock are no stranger to this hunt camp, either. The nearest private land is 1/2 mile away. Lost Creek stream has been dammed by beaver and is creating a nice flooding in front of the cabin for the occasional duck that drops in. Three hunters have taken four deer from this hunt camp in a year. The cabin is on a slab and sided with vertical cedar batten. It has propane cooking and lighting, plus battery-powered lanterns as backup. There is an old-fashioned pitcher pump at the sink for your water. For the old-timers, there is a trip down memory lane to the traditional outhouse. For the younger generation, that's the way it used to be; look at it as a history lesson and appreciate the lifestyle that you have. There is also a storage shed for all of the gear that you accumulate at a remote hunt club. New roofing was installed in 2001. No electric this far back in the forest; if you want electricity you will need to bring a generator. The silence is awe-inspiring, so you may want to forego the generator. Why take the chance that you may spook the occasional eagle that lands on a tall tree. To get there, take I-75 to Exit 215. First, be sure to stop at The Jerky Stop at Exit 202, Alger/Mio, and go 3/4 mile to the Mobil station on the left - make this a tradition. Back on I-75 to Exit 215. Get off and turn left (west). Use your odometer carefully after this point. Go 5.9 miles to the dirt road on the left (There will be a sign that says: Old M-55/Emery Road ORV Project). Take the fork to the left and go 1.16 miles to the dirt road on the left, noting the diamond shaped State ORV Trail # 6 markers along the way. Turn left and go 1.7 miles to the 2-track forest road on the left. You are in the heart of State Forest. Stay to the right on the two-track and after .15 mile you will see a private property sign on the right, so you will know that you are on the right track. After 2.2 miles you will come to a cable on the right that blocks a private road going into the property. From there, if you do not have a key, it is a pleasant hike back to the cabin. West Branch, Michigan offers a discount mall, WalMart, Ace Hardware, Rite Aid, Applebees, Sears Repair Center, Harley Davidson dealership, medical offices, bakery, taverns, ORV dealerships, art shops and all of the things you would expect to find in a nice northern Michigan town. You will also pass The Dream and The Nightmare golf courses just a few miles from the camp; both courses appropriately named. Call the listing agent first to make arrangements to see the cabin.
The property is the NE 1/4 of Section 34, South Part of Richfield Twp, Roscommon County T22N - R1W.
