The building site was originally home to the Hayden-Ford Mill, built in 1837, by Stillman Blanchard. In 1935, Henry Ford reconstructed the present building after it was lost to a fire. The building was transferred to the City in the 1950’s. The water wheel is the original water wheel constructed by Mr. Ford, which was rebuilt by Mr. Don Perky in the 1990’s. The building is currently owned by the City of Tecumseh, which is currently seeking RFPs for an adaptive reuse of this historic site.
The total building square footage is 7,344 on the first floor, 8,024 on the second floor and 7,344 on the third floor. The parking lot surrounding the building is public parking and owned by the City of Tecumseh.
The property is zoned RA1 landmark (single family residential) in which general business, retail, entertainment and office uses are permitted.
The City owns the adjoining parking and park space. The city will consider shared parking space, but will require accessibility and parking to adjoining park land.
