Ypsilanti is a city located in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The city has an estimated population of 20,800, with a 3.0% increase since 2010. It is a college town located approximately 40 miles west of Detroit. Ypsilanti's historic downtown is home to Eastern Michigan University's campus. Ypsilanti is also home to Washtenaw Community College sponsored off-site extension center. The area is full of museums and attractions including the Yankee Air Museum, where visitors can book a flight on a historic WWII aircraft like the B-17, B-25 and C47. Ypsilanti's economy has a mix of industries and research and development activities, many in the pharmaceutical and medical technology fields.

Ypsilanti is 10 miles southeast of Ann Arbor, a very important cultural center for Michigan. The city is dominated by the University of Michigan, which has over 42,000 students enrolled. The university is also very important to the local economy as it employs about 30,000 workers. Ann Arbor's economy is also centered on high technology, with many companies drawn to the university's research and development infrastructure.
