On the edge of the new Hudson Yards super-development, 460 West 34th Street, is poised to become one of the new district�s most prestigious addresses. Constructed as the Master Printers Building in 1927 designed by Parker & Shaffer, 460 West 34th Street was at the time the tallest concrete structure of its competition in New York and one of the tallest such in the world. The planned renovation by the renowned architectural firm of MdeAS, who has designed a new entrance on West 33rd Street where a distinctive glass entry pavilion will lead to a green viewing garden. Floor-to-ceiling windows will flood the space with natural light, while the new lobby incorporates historic industrial details � exposed concrete, blackened stainless steel, reclaimed wood floors, and ceilings. A custom aluminum screen, titled �Rebar� and inspired by the original construction methods will act as a subtle divider of the space; conversion of the commodious freight elevators to destination passenger cabs will merge character and efficiency. On the floors above, spacious open plans feature original concrete finishes on floors, columns, and ceilings while providing open, flexible workspace possibilities. The building�s freestanding design � unusual for the location and period � guarantees 10� tall windows and magnificent views from all sides as well as from a new rooftop terrace.

New opportunities for two-story retail exist at both street and avenue levels and the district as a whole is geared towards high-end shopping and dining options, certain to become a destination for locals and visitors alike. In addition to retail, the neighborhood will incorporate The Shed, a new eight-level gallery and performing arts center designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and featuring a retractable roof and events space. A block from 460 West 34th Street stands Thomas Heatherwick�s stunning interactive sculpture �Vessel�, the structure is comprised of 154 staircases, 80 landings, and almost 2,500 individual steps; at approximately 150 ft. tall, it will provide unique views at every level. And the world-famous High Line Park, accessible from both West 34th and West 30th Streets, winds southward through Chelsea to the Meatpacking District.
